We have tested out a 3 layer system to ensure pots get sufficient water but can still drain excess moisture. Geotextile, felt and capillary mat work to create the ideal self-watering system for your pots when combined with a WaterUps® Sub Irrigation Channel (basic kit).

The mats can be washed in warm water with a small amount of detergent to clean them as algae may build up due to the moisture and exposure to light.

Includes 8L of perlite for the legs of the 3 WaterUps® wicking cells in the Sub Irrigation Channel.

Featuring a 900mm seat with a wicking planters at each end. Made from solid, eco-treated pine, the edges and corners are rounded and all surfaces sanded for a smooth finish. Ready for you to oil/paint/stain to suit your needs.

The first 2 pictures show a seat that has been oiled with 3 coats of Cabots Garden Furniture Oil (‘New Natural’). The product is supplied in the natural timber state (3rd photo). We recommend oiling this annually to keep the timber in good condition.

The planters are lined and ready for perlite and soil, both of which are supplied.

This is a very heavy unit and requires 2 people to move it.

Note the seat does not lift up for under seat storage. This feature is currently in design.

The AHVG chicken grazing frame solves this problem by restricting access to the plant roots whilst providing constant soil moisture thanks to the 50L water reservoir. Chickens can nibble away at the green growth poking up through the mesh. It’s tough enough to cope with chickens walking on it.

The frame is built with a solid bottom ring which contains the liner, WaterUps wicking cells, inlet and outlet pipes. The top ring is attached to the bottom ring with a pair of hinges and held down with a clasp. This allows you to open the lid to add more seeds, replenish the soil etc. The galvanised aviary mesh separates the chickens from the base of the plants. The kit comes fully assembled. You just need to put the liner, cells, inlet and outlet pipes in. The kit includes the required perlite and soil and a small bag of seeds to grow your first crop for your chickens.

Assembly instructions
Place bed on level ground.
Unfold and clip liner together – see this video for a guide.
Insert tank outlet through the hole in the end and thread on washer. Add elbow and tighten.
Place 3 wicking cells in bed ensuring the cell with a cutout is placed closest to the outlet pipe.
Click inlet pipe into place.
Add perlite to the 4 wicks and add soil. Sprinkle seed over the soil surface and water in. Fill reservoir with water via the inlet pipe.
Close lid and secure with the clasp.

Installation instructions
Ensure your pot has drainage holes at the bottom.
Place WaterUps round wicking cell in pot.
Click the WaterUps Inlet pipe into position.
Put starter kit into your pot.
Add perlite to the 4 wicks.
Add gravel or perlite around the outside of the starter kit to the level of the starter kit.
Cover starter kit and gravel/perlite with a piece of geotextile fabric.

1. Check the position of the overflow hole in the planter base
2 . Place the short screw overflow pipe in the matching position on the underside of the WaterUps® wicking cell and click into position
3. Cut out the circle for the inlet pipe with a knife and click the inlet pipe into position
4. Place the WaterUps® round wicking cell into the planter base, add washer and screw on nut
5. Add the perlite to the 4 wicks in the WaterUps® round wicking cell then add soil.

Introducing the Rat Mesh Cage, specifically designed for our range of timber beds but we can custom build to your specifications.

Our standard size is 450mm in height which gives you plenty of room for leafy greens and herbs. We use them to protect younger plants and then remove the cage to give them room to grow but it can be left on permanently for smaller plants. We can also build a cage 900mm high for $300. There are 2 hinges on one side to easily lift the cage and we supply a chock to hold it up. It comes fully constructed with the screws required to attach it to the bed.
